This comes as a punch to those who already feel disheartened by the Gulf oil spill. Early this morning a crew responded to the pipeline leak, reducing the flow of the spill to 2-3 gallons per minute. However, it is still shocking to learn that the spill was left undetected for 9 hours before Chevron was aware of the leak. Many animals, particularly waterfowl have already been affected.
Considering how we are already at the center of processing a spill of massive proportions, it grips me with severe alarm that continuing this oil economy has become increasingly more dangerous. As global climate change unfolds, the oil companies and our own government are showing us the carelessness in which they operate. Perhaps it could be ignored if they did not make such significant mistakes, and often. It is obvious that this cannot be chalked up to mere anomalies any longer. We can challenge the government by pushing for a clean energy economy.
Worldwide, Chevron has created many environmental atrocities. Enough to spark a campaign, solely aimed at combating Chevron’s dangerous and irresponsible practices. The goal of the “We Can Change Chevron” campaign is to get this energy giant to seize the opportunity to become a world leader in renewable energy.
