The Energy Revolution is a reality in central London today as Greenpeace activists in the UK close down and re-brand forty-six British Petroleum petrol stations.
Activists assembled signs that read, ‘Closed. Moving beyond petroleum’ and covered the petrol station signs with a new BP logo.
This bold action makes it clear to BP that we want to see them really move “beyond petroleum” and halt environmentally destructive actions like deepwater drilling and the Canadian tar sands.
Even though the oil has stopped gushing into the gulf, there will be long-lasting impacts to the marine ecosystem. Key species like Sea Turtles help keep marine ecosystems in balance. Sea Turtles were already being decimated by many factors including commercial fishing, but devastations like the gulf oil spill, put critical habitats in danger. As a key species, the loss of Sea Turtles threatens the rest of the marine ecosystem.
