Victory for our Mountains!

Thank you, banks!

Several years ago, we would never see leading banks like Citi and Bank of America refuse financing to coal companies involved in mountaintop removal coal mining. In recent years, policies in leading banking institutions have changed for the better. This can be credited to the grassroots action of the American public fighting for our mountains as well as groups like Rainforest Action Network. A victory like this is extraordinary.

Citi, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Credit Suisse, and Morgan Stanley have taken a stand to stop bankrolling the destruction of our mountains. This stance shows the public and coal companies like Massey Energy that they don’t need to invest in mountaintop removal to do well. The health of the environment and the public is far more critical.

There’s more work to be done to end the bankrolling of the destruction of our mountains. Swiss bank giant, UBS is the world’s largest financier of mountaintop removal mining. Send them a message and urge them to stop loaning out millions to coal mining companies.
