We Love What These Folks Are Doing!

Party Corps' mission is to connect good people to good causes through music.

There is significant need among grassroots nonprofit organizations for capacity building and support services that Party Corps provide.

Party Corps aims to build lasting community support and attract new members for our beneficiaries.  All proceeds from events go directly to the featured local cause.

In the past, Party Corps has operated as an informal social network, throwing all volunteer-run events to raise money and support for Bay Area organizations.  We have seen how music can motivate and galvanize a community of active citizens.  Now, Party Corps is transitioning to a formal structure so we can produce better events and support more good causes.

Wine, Women & Song: An Interview With Susan Zelinsky

Poster for the Rack-n-Roll Benefit ConcertLocal singer/songwriter/actor, Susan Z, has been producing benefit concerts since 1998. Her mother is a two-time breast cancer survivor, which is why this cause is dear to her heart. Proceeds go to local breast cancer agencies, Zero Breast Cancer of Marin, which is helping find the reason Marin has one of the highest, if not THE highest, rate of breast cancer in the world... and To Celebrate Life Foundation, which is helping with education, awareness and patient services.  CANCER SUCKS! COMMUNITY RULES! MUSIC HEALS!

1. Tell our readers what exactly Wine, Woman & Song is all about.

Wine, Women & Song® started out in 1998, as bar room concerts supporting the fight against breast cancer. After producing the first show with one volunteer (the late Howard Fargo), more volunteers arrived on the scene and have been with me ever since, such as Ualtar O'Regan, Eileen Grady and Austin Wondolowski. My mother is a two time breast cancer survivor, hence my passion for this cause.

2. How did you get started putting on the Rack and Roll Breastival concerts?

The first few years we had indie artists playing their original tunes. That morphed into a show with one band, lots of singers, all doing covers by artists who've had breast cancer, i.e. Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Dusty Springfield, Carly Simon, and many more.

Interview With Naomi Reagan of HeART to Help Japan

When: Friday, April 8th, 9pm-12:30am

Where: El Rio (3158 Mission St., SF, CA)

RSVP & invite your friends: Official invite

Tickets: $5-500, Sliding Scale at the door.

1.) How did HeART To Help Japan come to be?

This all started as an idea amongst friends wanting to find ways to help and to heal as a community. While waiting to hear back from family and loved ones in Japan, myself and many friends here were desperate to find something positive and constructive with which we could focus our energies. Sending what money each of us could as individuals just didn't seem like enough. Our hearts ached to do more.

As someone who aspires to work and play where art meets activism, it seemed second nature to ask what we as artists could do to leverage our talents and community resources. (In fact, a large part of why I choose to live in the Bay Area is because of the vibrant community of art and activism that thrives here.) So, I began reaching out to friends and fellow artists to find out how our community was responding to this tragedy. I initially inquired about ways to volunteer or facilitate efforts that were already underway. But, I found myself quickly overwhelmed by the number of responses from artists saying, "I don't know what's being planned, but that's a great idea. Count me in!" One of the first people I thought to reach out to was Jay Trainer and the folks at Artfulchange. When the Jay Trainer Band pledged a performance, I knew that we could make this happen. Having Artfulchange offer to sponsor this event is what made this idea amongst friends a reality.

Press Release: Buy A Song To Support A Cause

This effort supports Coalition on Homelessness, WRAP & Literacy for Environmental JusticeJay Trainer Band has partnered with Artfulchange on a new campaign called Power Of The Arts and is aimed towards promoting local San Francisco causes as well as financially contributing to their work. The band is donating 50% of the proceeds of select track sales off their new EP, when purchased through the Artfulchange Power of the Arts campaign.

Artfulchange is a collaboration of artists and environmentalists. They seek to construct thoughtful alliances in hopes of solving some of the world’s most pressing environmental and social problems. Artfulchange utilizes the arts as a catalyst for social change. Their aim is to provide opportunities to everyone to incorporate activism into their lives in the framework they have constructed.

Jay Trainer Band and Artfulchange are currently partnering with three local nonprofits on this initiative and are working diligently to grow the list of beneficiaries. As Jay puts it, "The core principle behind Artfulchange is using our passion for the arts to have an impact on these issues.  We are creating opportunities for people to enjoy the arts and at the same time know that the money they are spending is going to make a difference."
